Final Fantasy

It’s been a long time since we’ve actually seen an officially released trailer for either Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Final Fantasy Agito XIII, but apparently we won’t have to wait much longer. In a surprising turn of events—for Square Enix anyway—it has been announced by Nomura himself that all trailers, both public and private will be released over the coming days.
Nomura tweeted via the 3rd_birthday Twitter account that each title’s trailer will be posted on their respective official sites soon starting with todays reveal of the Dissidia 012 [duodecim] trailer. He says the reason for this staggered release of trailers is because of the time it takes to create each site and asks for everyone to be patient. This announcement does put into question Square’s efforts to remove all traces of the leaked Versus and Agito trailers from the internet. It’s possible that this decision to release them officially was made in light of how impossible it really is to expect no one to attempt to leak them. Let’s look forward to our upcoming (hopefully) HD Fabula Nova Crystallis fix.

Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference Details from Famitsu
Date: September 21st, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Fabula Nova Crystallis
The latest issue of Famitsu gives us some details of the upcoming Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference being held on January 11th next year. Tetsuya Nomura helps enlighten us on what’s actually going to take place at the event. See the list below for what’s confirmed so far.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII Screenshots will be released.
New titles will be announced – some not even part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation.
New Dissidia 012 [duodecim] characters will be announced.
…and apparently there will be more surprises revealed at the event itself.
There’s no mention of any trailers being shown at the conference as of yet, but it would seem out of place for there not to be any video footage at all. There is more good news though. Square have confirmed that “some” members of the public will be able to attend the event. Let’s hope it isn’t a huge disappointment.

TGS 2010: Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito Trailers Leaked
Date: September 17th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Fabula Nova Crystallis
It looks like we won’t have to wait for our Versus and Agito fix for quite as long as we though. Both the Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII trailers have been leaked and posted online. They’ve been recorded on a camera obviously so the quality is pretty bad but at least they didn’t get caught recording them. Here you go:

TGS 2010: Final Fantasy Versus & Agito XIII Trailer Impressions
Date: September 16th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Fabula Nova Crystallis
Although the combined Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII trailer has been spared the fate of appearing in Square’s infamous Closed Mega Theatre, it’s humiliatingly been stuck only appearing on screens inside the Square Enix booth where people queue to play other games. Even so, Gamespot has taken the time to post some impressions of the trailer. Read them below.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer was part of a series of incredibly brief trailers that showed images from Final Fantasy XIII as well as Final Fantasy Agito XIII. We saw the main character, a young man with short black hair wander through several completely deserted areas. First it was a barren landscape, then it switched to a deteriorated roadway, and eventually we see him in the city, where it was just him fighting a giant behemoth. The quick fight scene showed him jumping and slashing furiously at the beast. Any hint of color or life in the trailer was limited to the spurts of red blood, coming from the behemoth, which stood out against the mostly dark and grey environment. There was nothing else on screen that would give us any clues as to how this game is set up other than it looks to be a 3D action game.
Final Fantasy Agito XIII
It does appear that the cast in the game are a bunch of students, as we saw a young girl school girl in a noticeably short skirt wielding a giant hammer. The gameplay appears to be action oriented, with a targeting system similar to Crisis Core. Even if we could understand Japanese, the trailer was over so fast that all we could make out was that there will be some giant mechanical foes as well as chocobos to ride on.
At the end of the series of painfully short trailers, which included images for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Square Enix revealed that a Fabula Nova Crystallis conference will be held January 11, 2011, so we can assume all the information is being saved until then.

TGS 2010: New Lightning Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Screenshot
Date: September 16th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Final Fantasy XIII
A new screenshot has been released of Lightning’s debut appearance on the PSP in Dissidia 012 [duodecim]. This time it’s an in-engine screenshot of her look as happy as ever. There isn’t any visible changes to her look – unlike other Final Fantasy characters featured – except a slightly more “chibified” face.

TGS 2010: Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference Being Held in January
Date: September 16th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Fabula Nova Crystallis
We weren’t expecting much from this years Tokyo Game Show but for the hundredth time, any kind of official news for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been delayed. Instead of once again being disappointed this time around though, we have a guarantee we’ll finally see something worth while soon.
A source at TGS has revealed that although the games have a minor presence there, they will actually be getting an entire “Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference” where new media will most likely be revealed. The conference which is taking part in January should hopefully answer our prayers. Hopefully it won’t just be press only.

…and Things are Working Again!

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve had a few issues with the site requiring us to upgrade certain elements. Unfortunately this caused our archaic news system to get scared and die. The posts were displaying on the front page but no new ones could be made. This of course had to happen when news finally picked up again. I took the arduous task of moving from the old system to a new one and a week later, here we are. Some things are still broken but once it’s finished, things should be running smoother than ever.
We’ve caught up with all the news we missed over the past week and it’s been posted below. Enjoy.
Oh, and if you were hoping for some Versus news, I’m sorry but you’ll have to wait until TGS in a few more days.
Mini Final Fantasy XIII Figures Announced
Date: September 13th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Final Fantasy XIII
If you don’t have room on your mantelpiece for the a group of fullsized Final Fantasy XIII figures, you can always slum it with these miniature collectable versions. Square Enix has announced that these PVC figures of the cast will go on sale this December and it’ll only cost $60 to get all five in a box. The exemption of Fang and Vanille from the set is suspicious but they’ll probably make an appearance at a later date.

Square Enix’s Xbox Betrayal Causes Outrage
Date: September 8th, 2010 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Final Fantasy XIII
The announcement that Final Fantasy XIII would be seeing a Japanese release hasn’t gone down well with a lot of Japanese who were promised time and time again that FFXIII would only be available on Playstation 3. The discontent mob decided to take their outrage out on Yoichi Wada, the president of Square-Enix, via his Twitter account.
With the tweets ranging from accusations of betrayal to blatant death threats, you can bet that Square knew this was coming. You can read some of their responses below:

Is it true? After saying so many times it would never be released on the Xbox in Japan, if you really do release it nobody will trust your word again.
Say something!
You’re going to betray us after saying it would never come out? I’m cancelling my pre-orders.
You liar!
Lying to customers is how you do business, eh? I’ll never buy a Square Enix title again.
With all the illegal lies and misdirection about FF13 you made, I reported you to the ministry of consumer affairs. And you promised DLC and quietly abandoned it – you’re detestable.
Charlatan!
Stop your pompous waffling and resign! Haven’t you made enough money yet? Next time put a guy who actually loves games in charge.
What’s up with game developers? Practically everything they say is a lie…
Well done, Scrooge.
Hey Wada! What the hell is this about FF13 on the 360 in Japan? You kept advertising the game in all the mags as a domestic PS3 exclusive! If you go through with this nobody’ll trust you again… Honestly I hate you so much I’d like to kill you. Quit soon. This is your last chance.
You’d better be prepared to run, or you’ll be killed! At the very least you ought to be prepared for a few rocks thrown your way!
